Burndawan Website Design
Burndawan is a resource developed with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Wadawurrung Country. It is aimed at Aboriginal individuals seeking information or support regarding harmful behaviours from partners or family members. We were approached to lead the design of the website’s UI and visuals.

— The Challenge
Challenge & Solution
We needed to treat the Burndawan Project with care and sensitivity. Our challenge was to ensure the safety of domestic and family violence users on the website while also adhering to cultural sensitivities.
We began by holding Indigenous community forums to gather feedback on what they wanted from the website, including which colours and symbols to avoid and which ones to use.
Once we determined these preferences, we created basic template designs. After completing and getting approval on these designs, we rolled them out across the rest of the website. We worked in an agile way with the developers and researchers to refine the UI and visuals, improving the website’s usability and retention. Now that we’ve launched the website, we’ll share it with the wider community for further user testing and improvements.
